The goal of the project is to improve the diagnosis of antibody deficiency disorders in Ukraine, which currently remains almost four times lower compared to European countries.
Patients without a proper diagnosis often suffer from severe infectious diseases, require frequent hospitalizations — including admissions to intensive care units, and develop serious complications. In the absence of appropriate treatment, the disease can lead to premature death.
As part of the project, online medical case conferences (consiliums) are conducted to discuss the clinical histories of patients suspected of having primary immunodeficiency disorders. These consiliums often involve multidisciplinary specialists such as hematologists, rheumatologists, infectious disease specialists, and others. Pediatric and adult immunologists work in close collaboration.
The project also aims to raise awareness of primary immunodeficiencies among physicians and is based on a multidisciplinary approach.
An expert opinion is provided by a commission from the NGO VADI (All-Ukrainian Association for Primary Immunodeficiencies) regarding the diagnosis, further investigations, treatment, and next steps.
If clinical and laboratory findings meet the project’s criteria, genetic testing and logistics are provided to the patient free of charge.
The project is supported by Biopharma Plasma, which has already contributed over UAH 1 million toward its implementation.
