Primary Immunodeficiencies: When International Experience Becomes Accessible – Insights from Martine Pergent, President of IPOPI

On April 1, a scientific and practical conference titled “Primary Immunodeficiencies: Warning Signs for Physicians of Any Specialty” was held at the Municipal Non-Profit Enterprise “Kyiv City Children’s Clinical Hospital No. 1”.

This event was initiated by the Ukrainian Association of Pediatric Immunology on the occasion of the upcoming World Primary Immunodeficiency Week. It was a great honor for us to welcome the invited speaker – Martine Pergent from France, President of the International Patient Organisation for Primary Immunodeficiencies (IPOPI).

Holding such a conference under current conditions was made possible thanks to close cooperation and strong partnership. We sincerely thank the team of the Municipal Non-Profit Enterprise “Kyiv City Children’s Clinical Hospital No. 1”, the patient organization “Rare Immune Diseases”, and the International European University for their support, trust, and collaboration.

We would also like to express our special gratitude to the Department of Health of the City of Kyiv and its head, Tetiana Mostepan, for their empathy, support, openness, assistance in disseminating information about the conference among the medical community of Kyiv, and personal participation in the opening of the conference. This is an important signal of support both for patients and for clinical immunology as a whole.

The conference was dynamic and engaging, featuring informative presentations, a strong focus on patient-centered care, active discussions, and a large number of practical questions from physicians. The participation of patients and parents of children with primary immunodeficiencies was especially valuable, once again highlighting the importance of early recognition of these conditions and adding real-world relevance to clinical practice.

It is encouraging that participants included physicians not only from Kyiv, but also from Chernivtsi, Lviv, Zhytomyr, Chernihiv, Vinnytsia, and other cities across Ukraine.

Before the conference, Martine Pergent had the opportunity to observe the hospital’s work under wartime conditions.

We thank our partner, Biopharma Plasma, for providing a charitable donation to support the organization of the conference.

Our deepest gratitude goes to the Director of the Municipal Non-Profit Enterprise “Kyiv City Children’s Clinical Hospital No. 1”, Yevheniia Hryhorieva, and the entire hospital team for their comprehensive support and significant contribution to the organization of this event.
