During the meeting, key issues related to ensuring access to medicinal products for patients with primary immunodeficiencies were discussed, including the availability of therapy, as well as the specific challenges and features of the drug registration process in Ukraine.
Significant attention was given to international experience – strategies for early diagnosis, the role of expert centers, and the organization of the patient journey from the onset of first symptoms to the establishment of a diagnosis.
In the course of the discussion, a critically important point was emphasized: early diagnosis is of decisive importance. Without a confirmed diagnosis, patients with primary immunodeficiencies may receive only symptomatic treatment for years, which ultimately leads to the development of severe complications.
Moreover, such treatment is often significantly more costly for both the healthcare system and patients than the timely initiation of specific therapy – without even taking into account indirect losses related to reduced productivity or the need for long-term care.
An important part of the meeting was the exchange of international experience: Martine Pergent shared practices from different countries and expressed her readiness to continue supporting Ukraine, promoting knowledge exchange and the development of this field.
Particular emphasis was placed on the special value of partnership and friendship between France and Ukraine – a connection that is felt not only in medicine, but also across various levels of our present-day life.
In conclusion, we note that the meeting held became an important step in establishing a constructive dialogue and further cooperation with the State Enterprise “State Expert Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine”, under the leadership of Director Edem Adamanov.
